Key Features
The MoogerFooger Software MF-107s Freqbox is a plug-in emulation of a unique VCO hardware pedal. Combining a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with adjustable waveshape and an envelope follower, MF-107s offers a wide range of audio applications from FM tones, gnarly filters and more.
The MF-107S FreqBox plug-in retains the original's core design while incorporating advanced features such as CV interconnectivity, stereo functionality, and an extended feature set. This powerful plug-in allows users to play, tweak, automate, and modulate parameters for truly dynamic and musical performances. It captures the jagged, freaky sounds of the original while preserving the organic interaction between parameters that made it so enjoyable to use.
With the ability to run multiple instances and access presets, the MF-107S FreqBox adapts the classic MoogerFooger functionality to suit the needs of today's digital creators. Dive into the dynamic, interactive world of the MoogerFooger MF-107S FreqBox and unleash your unique musical expressions through exploration and experimentation.

With so much functionality under the hood of Freqbox, there are many different production techniques and sounds to explore. Basic functionality presents an expression-pedal-like control, adjusting the FREQ input for clean, single-note modulation. Sweeping the frequency of the VCO lets you explore slow, harmonic sweeps or rapid fluctuation for rhythmic effects, reminiscent of a wah-wah guitar pedal. Using the same parameters, you can introduce a dose of FM for additional growl and bite in your sound.
Using the dynamics of your playing, you can modulate the frequency of the VCO with the Envelope Follower control. The strength of your playing automatically sweeps the VCO frequency, much like a standard auto-filter would. Perfect for guitar lead lines or even vocals.
Long, held droning notes are even possible with MF-107s Freqbox. Perfect for modal jams, you can tune the VCO to a specific frequency in the key of your song. Laying the foundation on which you can perform arpeggios or melodic lines, the Freqbox can be fattened up with just a hint of detuning for a thick wall of sound. By no means an exhaustive list, MF-107s Freqbox is a must-have for creative electronic and acoustic musicians looking for new sounds to explore.
The MoogerFooger Software MF-107S FreqBox boasts an impressive array of modulation controls, providing users with unparalleled flexibility and creative possibilities. The ENV AMOUNT control determines the extent to which the envelope follower CV affects the VCO frequency. This control can either add or subtract from the FREQ control setting, depending on whether it is set above or below 0.
With an 8-octave sweep range, the envelope follower CV allows for even greater frequency control than what's available on the front panel. The FM AMOUNT control sets the degree to which the drive signal frequency modulates the VCO. As you turn this control clockwise, the amount of frequency modulation (FM) increases. Since the depth of FM is also influenced by the strength of the drive signal, adjusting the DRIVE control will affect the FM effect's intensity.
The type of input signal and the VCO's waveform play a significant role in the FM output. Simpler input waveforms yield more predictable results, while complex inputs create a more chaotic sound. Brighter VCO waveforms, such as saw, square, and pulse, generate a wealth of harmonics.
Finally, the MIX control allows you to balance the drive signal and VCO signal, offering a seamless blend of the input and output signals. With the MIX control fully counterclockwise, the output is 100% input signal, while the centre position provides a 50/50 mix, and turning it fully clockwise yields a 100% VCO signal.
The MoogerFooger Software MF-107S FreqBox offers precise control over your audio input levels, ensuring optimal signal processing and sound quality. The DRIVE control is essential for adjusting the input gain, allowing you to fine-tune the input level for a wide range of instruments or line-level signal sources. Turn the control counterclockwise for stronger input signals and clockwise for weaker sources.
The LEVEL light serves as a visual indicator of the input signal strength after being adjusted by the DRIVE control. Very weak signals won't activate the light, while green indicates a distortion-free signal. Yellow signifies a subtle warm analog quality with minimal distortion, and red represents more pronounced audible distortion.
Additionally, the OUTPUT control offers positive and negative gain adjustments for the final output of the effect, post-drive and modulation. This enables you to dial in the perfect amount of drive and saturation while maintaining an optimal signal level for further processing. The convenient LINK button, located just below the OUTPUT control, connects the DRIVE and OUTPUT controls. When engaged, adjusting one control automatically adjusts the other, ensuring unity gain throughout the effect.
Combining the Freqbox with other MoogerFooger pedals presents an opportunity to explore unique sounds not possible on its own. Producing the basic waveforms needed for subtractive synthesis, you can combine MF-107S with the MF-101S LowPass Filter to fatten up VCO sounds. Too dynamic? Pair your signal with an MF-109s Saturator, enhancing the sustain of your signal, rounding out the lows and adding punch to make notes stand out.
On the original hardware, you'd find input jacks for CV control. Recreated in the digital world, MF-107S features virtual CV connectivity, allowing you to use sources to adjust parameters in a classic modular synth fashion. By connecting any MoogerFooger Software plug-ins together, you can add dynamic movement to your sound throughout a mix or performance. From the subtle to the extreme, adjust everything from the Envelope Follower amount, waveform shape or even the VCO frequency remotely.
The MoogerFooger Software MF-107S FreqBox introduces new features that enhance its capabilities and adapt it to the needs of modern audio creators. One significant addition is the STEREO mode, which features two independent oscillators for the left and right channels. This preserves the stereo image of your audio tracks, as opposed to the original MF-107, which was a mono effect with a single oscillator tracking a mono signal. The MF-107S still offers a MONO mode, using the same oscillator for both channels, while the envelope follower remains mono in both modes.
Another improvement in the MF-107S is the enhanced ENVELOPE CONTROLS. In the original MF-107, the onboard envelope follower controlled both the level of the FreqBox effect and the frequency of the VCO, adjustable with the ENV AMOUNT control. The MF-107S allows you to maintain this behaviour by switching the Envelope Control setting to FREQUENCY AND LEVEL. Alternatively, you can switch to FREQUENCY ONLY, which keeps the FreqBox effect constantly on, generating a droning sound.
