With the lo-fi sound being so popular in the modern era, a microphone that can emulate that sound from source is a must-have for any audio professional. Look no further than the PhonFreq from Solomon. This specialised microphone features a midrange-focused frequency response that replicates the sound of vintage landline telephones from the 1960s onwards. Not only does it sound like an old telephone, but it looks like one too; with the exterior featuring a design reminiscent of a telephone receiver. The specialised frequency range coupled with the cardioid polar pattern allows you to capture lo-fi sound without the need for post-processing.
Utilising the half-yoke mount, the Solomon PhonFreq can be mounted and positioned in a variety of different ways, depending on your sound source and environment. In the standard configuration, the PhonFreq provides 45-degrees of up/down movement, whereas the reverse yoke style allows for full 360-degrees rotation when the mic’s body is reversed. You can also use the microphone in your hand by removing the mount entirely, or configure it to a side-address style to allow for 90-degree mounting.
