A new era of microphone
Designed as a side-addressing studio condenser microphone, the C-100 incorporates an innovative and advanced dual-capsule design to capture your sound source in ultra-high definition. Featuring three selectable polar patterns, you can tailor your microphone to your sound source to get the best performance possible and capture every detail that will bring out the best in your performance. Select between Omni-directional, Uni-directional(cardioid) and Bi-directional (figure of eight) polar patterns for your recordings. Omni-directional is the perfect solution for recording multiple musicians in one space, such as a chamber orchestra, to capture each element evenly. The cardioid pattern can be selected when recording a single audio source such as a singer or vocalist to capture direct detail with a focused and tight sound. Bi-directional will be effective when recording two sources at once such as a duet singing performance, where both singers will be recorded in one capsule to present a consistent frequency response.
Additionally, the Sony C-100 features a -10dB input pad and low-cut switch to ensure that you capture your source with no distortion or unruly low frequencies.
Innovative dual-capsule design
The combination of two capsules in one housing provides the Sony C-100 with the familiar sound characteristics of premium quality large-diaphragm microphones and high-resolution ultra-sonic frequency range to capture your sound source in immaculate detail. Featuring a crossover point between the two capsules at 25kHz, the Sony C-100 effectively reduces any potential noise and interference within the audible range that may cause a disturbing and distracting tone to your recordings. This upper range from 25kHz onwards is covered by a newly developed large-diaphragm capsule, externally polarised true capacitor design, you can expect to hear an extremely articulate and bright sound without sounding harsh or too direct.
Expertly engineered, the Sony C-100 Two Way Condenser Microphone has been tuned to perfection to allow any frequencies within the super-sonic range to be captured in smooth detail, extending down to the upper-most range of normal human hearing to provide a unique and exciting take on capturing high frequencies. For users choosing to record in more conventional sample rates of 44.1kHz may not experience the additional brightness and harmonics preserved by the additional capsule and instead, the C-100 will only make use of the second diaphragm to capture your sound source, making it an extremely versatile microphone for a host of different recording and studio setups.
Premium sound-quality
Presenting an ultra-high-definition soundscape, the C-100 Two Way Condenser Microphone delivers a bright and articulate sound with a healthy dose of full-bodied lows and strong mid-range. A bias in the frequency range above 6kHz makes the C-100 the ultimate microphone for recording bright and airy vocals that won't suffer from harsh harmonics. Delivering a natural sound, the C-100 doesn't sound too overprocessed, letting you mix your vocal tracks to suit the nature of your song instead of fighting against an already heavily processed and EQ'd signal.
A versatile and high-quality microphone, the C-100 is perfectly suited for a range of different instruments, not just for vocals. Try it on an acoustic guitar and hear the strings brim with life and energy, capturing each string detail as well as the full-body resonance and complex mid-range, putting you closer to the music than ever before. The dual-capsule technology allows the Sony C-100 to present a wide and spacious soundscape, even when used in a focused cardioid pattern, letting you achieve the depth and character of vintage microphones with the added benefit of modern frequency response.
