The 47-style FET design was revered in the music world for its intelligibility, fast transients and rich overall sound. Famed for its ability to capture sound sources in great detail (even at high volumes), the original 47-style mic design was a go-to for many recording artists and audio engineers. Found in countless mic lockers, the original microphone was regarded as the ‘secret weapon’ in music studios because of its versatile nature and rich sound. Meticulously recreated for the modern user, Warm Audio has built the microphone from the ground up using premium-quality components including a custom TAB-Funkenwek (AMI) transformer.
Utilising premium-grade Fairchild FETs with polystyrene and WIMA capacitors provide exceptional signal conversion for highly accurate sound reproduction. At its core, the WA-47F features a reproduced K47-style, single-backplate capsule. Providing an ultra-wide frequency response (20Hz – 19kHz) with a pronounced midrange and a slight scoop in the high-end; the capsule is perfect for capturing critical details – no matter the source.
Carrying on its legacy of being highly versatile, the WA-47F is suitable for recording a range of sound sources including vocals, guitar/bass cabinets and kick drums. When micing up kick drums for recording, artists have generally used a 47-style microphone on the outside of the drum to capture the ‘thump’ from the drum. The original mic could capture the boom of the air pressure that dynamics mics could not.
