Capture every detail with professional audio performance
The H5studio delivers high-quality sound using Zoom’s F-series preamps, engineered to provide clean, detailed recordings with minimal noise. With a noise floor of -127 dBu EIN, these preamps are capable of capturing subtle nuances in quiet environments while still handling louder signals without introducing distortion. Dual A/D converters and 32-bit float recording give you an extended dynamic range of 132 dB, allowing you to record both soft and loud sources in the same take without adjusting levels or worrying about signal clipping.
To prevent overload, the recorder includes look-ahead limiters that anticipate and control peaks before they reach your track. This means your recordings stay clean without relying on post-processing to fix audio issues. The device also features built-in RF shielding to block unwanted interference from mobile phones or nearby Wi-Fi devices.
Gain control and 32-bit float in one system
One of the H5studio’s standout features is its dual approach to level management. You get the full safety net of 32-bit float, which removes the need to adjust gain manually. This format captures a broad dynamic range and allows you to correct levels later without adding noise. If you prefer more direct control, the H5studio includes physical gain knobs for quick, tactile level adjustment. It also supports 16-bit and 24-bit WAV recording for workflows where files need to be final on capture.
The full-colour LCD display shows real-time waveforms and input levels, giving you visual monitoring during recording. This makes it easy to track multiple sources at once and spot any issues before they affect your take.
Flexible multi-track recording for a range of setups
With six available tracks (four isolated inputs and one stereo mix) the H5studio handles complex recording scenarios. You can capture interviews, performances, field recordings or live sessions with clarity and precision. The included XY stereo microphone module uses large 19.4mm capsules, offering a wide frequency response, 140 dB SPL handling, and natural stereo imaging with greater depth than standard built-in mics. Two locking XLR/TRS inputs support +48V phantom power and +4dBu line-level sources, making it compatible with a range of microphones and instruments.
A 3.5mm stereo mini jack input with plug-in power adds flexibility for smaller mics, such as lavaliers or on-camera options. You can also expand the H5studio’s recording potential using Zoom’s 3.0 capsule system. Compatible capsules like the SSH-6e and EXH-6e offer additional inputs or different mic configurations, depending on your needs.
Stream, back up, and monitor with confidence
The H5studio doubles as a 4-in/2-out USB audio interface for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. This allows you to stream live while recording a backup to a microSD card simultaneously. The recorder supports microSDHC and microSDXC cards up to 2TB (sold separately), giving you hours of high-resolution recording in a single session. It includes a 3.5mm stereo line out for connecting directly to cameras and external devices, simplifying audio and video syncing during shoots.
You can monitor recordings through the 20 mW headphone output or preview files using the built-in speaker. The unit also includes practical features like mono recording mode, a low-cut filter to reduce low-frequency noise, variable speed playback, and an A-B repeat function for reviewing takes. Timecode support is available via the optional TCA-1 adapter, and remote control functionality can be added with the BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter and the Handy Control & Sync app for iOS.
The H5studio runs on four AA batteries for up to 15 hours or can be powered via USB or an optional AC adapter. It also includes accessibility features for visually impaired users, offering audible menu descriptions through the built-in speaker or headphones in seven selectable languages.
