The C.G. Conn legacy
The story of the C.G. Conn trombone starts in 1875, when Colonel Charles Gerard Conn founded his instrument manufacturing company in the small town of Elkhart, Indiana. Conn rapidly made a name for himself with his innovative brass designs, and within a short amount of time his company was the largest producer of trombones in the United States. Conn trombones are known for their unique tonal colour and stability at fortissimo dynamics - making them among the most widely used professional symphonic trombones in the world.
Special features
This 88HCL comes with a thin walled, rose brass bell. Rose brass creates a warmer, darker sound profile than the more commonly used yellow brass, making it the material of choice for those seeking a more complex tone. The lighter-weight construction of this thin bell allows for a much quicker, easier response, and makes for a more comfortable playing experience during long sessions.
An open wrap F attachment is utilised in the 88HCL. This single, large loop helps to decrease air resistance by reducing the number of sharp angles in the tubing. The result is much less variation in blowing resistance when the loop is engaged, which significantly improves the playability of the instrument.
To ensure an incredibly smooth slide action and effortless playability, the inner slide tubing is made from chrome-plated nickel silver. This premium material glides freely, allowing rapid movement - and also adds brilliance to the timbre.
Lindberg valve
The open wrap F attachment features a patented 'CL200' valve, designed in collaboration with the famous trombonist Christian Lindberg. This valve is incredibly smooth to engage, and removes a lot of the resistance found in traditional axial rotary systems. It activates with the shortest throw of any commercially available rotor system, which reduces air build-up during engagement - eliminating the 'pop' which occurs with other rotors.
Included accessories
The Conn 88HCL tenor trombone comes included with a C.G. Conn 5G mouthpiece and a 7521C wood shell case. The mouthpiece provides a crisp, clean tone, with a quick response and effortless access to the higher registers. Your trombone will be kept safe from bangs and scrapes with the sturdy yet lightweight construction of the 7521C case, perfect for the musician on the move.
