Key Features
Effortlessly vintage. The JodyJazz HR* Custom Dark soprano sax mouthpiece is the perfect mouthpiece for musicians seeking a dark and traditional tone. And thanks to so many sizes being available, there's a perfect Custom alto mouthpiece for you.
What really makes the Custom Dark mouthpiece stand out is the material - Chedeville rubber. This legendary rubber offers a tone which radiates a sense of purity and density which competitors simply cannot replicate. The rubber combined with the rolled over baffle and large open round chamber produces the darkest sounding mouthpiece in the JodyJazz range.
Around the shank of the mouthpiece you will find a heavy stylised ring. This extra weight boosts the body of the tone and increases the harmonics. As with all JodyJazz mouthpieces, the HR* Custom Dark is individually play tested to maintain the highest consistency and quality.

The secret to excellence starts with the material - Chedeville rubber. To ensure that the new rubber is identical to original Chedeville mouthpieces, JodyJazz needed to reverse engineer the rubber. They did this by analysing legendary pre World War II mouthpieces by using some of the most advanced forms of digital scanning. By doing this, they can be certain of the chemical makeup, and therefore be assured that they were starting with a true Chedeville "blank". Often copied, but never equalled, if you don't see the symbol CHR on the mouthpiece, then it does not contain Chedeville rubber.
JodyJazz was founded by Jody Espina and has gone on to be one of the leading designers and producers of mouthpieces for saxophones and clarinets. With the use of 3D modelling and crafted using CNC multi-axis machines, the mouthpieces are finished by hand and play tested by Jody Espina himself. The company's other professional players test the mouthpieces to ensure that each mouthpiece has a perfect seal with the reed and has a proper response throughout the range of saxophones.
