Key Features
The Roland Aerophone AE-20 delivers the experience of Roland's flagship wind instrument, with a much more streamlined design. Utilising two fantastic sound engines - SuperNATURAL and Zen-Core - the Aerophone can deliver a huge range of both acoustic and electronic sounds. Featuring low-latency breath and bite sensors, this instrument offers supreme playability. The comfortable keywork can be programmed to play with saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder, or brass fingerings, so whatever your background, you'll be right at home with the AE-20.
Play anywhere at all, with a built-in speaker and battery-powered operation. Or plug straight into a PA system for an exciting stage performance. The AE-20 even has a USB-MIDI connection, so you can plug into a computer and put it to work in the studio! A selection of apps deepens the capabilities of the Aerophone, with a mobile app for fine-tuning your sound and performance (Aerophone Pro Editor), and a learning app (Aerophone Lesson) - which makes use of Bluetooth connectivity to deliver an interactive teaching experience.

The Aerophone's reed-style mouthpiece will feel familiar to experienced woodwind players, whilst its rapid response and natural vibrato control make it highly accessible to total beginners. The highly sensitive breath and bite sensors are customisable, as is the fingering setup. You can configure the fingerings for a number of existing instruments, or personalise the Aerophone and create your own unique layout. Whatever your style, you'll love the seven-octave range and easy transposition options, making it a simple matter to play along to anything.
The AE-20 utilises Roland's SuperNATURAL sound engine to stunningly deliver acoustic sounds such as Alto, Tenor, and Baritone saxophones; flute, trumpet, and clarinet; and even world instruments like the shakuhachi or the bagpipes. The ultra-lifelike SuperNATURAL technology imbues all of these soundsets with realistic overtones, articulations, and dynamics - all carefully derived from your input.
This instrument also uses the ZEN-Core Synthesis System - the same sound engine Roland uses in their flagship keyboard synths. This allows you to experience classic analogue synth sounds, as well as performing with exciting modern digital voices. Every single one of the 260+ preset voices on the Aerophone has been curated to synergise with wind-style dynamics and articulations.
The AE-20 is ideal for live performances, perfect for plugging directly into amps or PA systems. If you want to do some private practice, you can plug in some headphones and take the Aerophone anywhere - making use of the battery power to get about six hours of continuous use out of it! You can even plug into a computer, and use the Aerophone's MIDI data output to control any number of software instruments - making the possibilities for creativity with the AE-20 literally infinite!
Roland's Aerophone Lesson and Aerophone Pro Editor apps will allow you to master your instrument, and make it your own. Whether you've never touched a wind instrument before, or you just want some pointers to boost your Aerophone playing, Aerophone Lesson is your perfect mentor. Using Bluetooth audio streaming, you can play along to the lessons using the Aerophone's sound system. Meanwhile, Aerophone Pro Editor lets you get down to the nitty-gritty and fine-tune your own unique tones and layered sounds.
