Key Features
The Yamaha YAH803S Neo Tenor Horn, Silver is Yamaha's most advanced tenor horn. Every part of the instrument has been re-evaluated and redesigned to aid its performance in the setting of brass ensembles. By working alongside numerous competitive brass bands throughout the UK and consulting with professional tenor horn players, Yamaha have created a horn which offers a warmer, more graceful sound, perfect for blending with the tone of a band.
Design innovations include a new leadpipe design, which offers a more natural blowing resistance and an easier response. A redesigned, heavier valve casing and receiver add strength to the construction, which imbues the sound with more breadth and quality. New levels of power and projection combine with a warmth and depth that brings the tenor horn to its rightful place at the heart of the brass band.

The Neo story began with requests from pro players to Yamaha, asking for instruments with a broader palette of sounds available - instruments with better expressive capabilities than what was currently available on the market. The Neo line of brass instruments are designed specifically for use in brass bands, so particular focuses during research and design were on playability, intonation, and overall timbre.
One of the main professional players advising the design of the YAH-803S was Sheona White. Sheona is one of the world's most esteemed players of the tenor horn, having spent 12 years as Principal Horn with the YBS Band, during which time they won the European Championships an unprecedented eight times out of ten appearances. Sheona is a widely popular guest soloist and has been at the forefront of developing new repertoire for the tenor horn. Her feedback and guidance were invaluable in informing the development of the Neo tenor horn.
Yamaha also sought the advice and feedback of many amateur brass band players in the UK. This was to see the way normal brass band horn players responded to the instrument, so as to create a tenor horn which met the needs of ordinary players. By doing this, Yamaha have managed to create a tenor horn with great, easy intonation, and a tone which blends perfectly with brass ensembles.
In order to increase projection and dynamic range, the YAH-803S features a large two-piece yellow brass bell. Expressive capabilities are improved by giving the horn a much easier response. This was achieved by redesigning the leadpipe and using a heavier mouthpiece receiver and brace. A heavier valve casing adds power to the timbre, as does a wider tuning slide. A stunning, silver-plated finish adds nuance to the sound of the instrument and gives it a distinguished look.
The YAH-803S comes included with a Yamaha AH-38D4 mouthpiece, and a tenor horn hard-shelled case. This professional standard mouthpiece offers excellent precision, with a smooth attack, great control, and a gentle, warm tone. The case is designed to keep your instrument safe from knocks and scrapes and will ensure your tenor horn looks and plays like new for years to come.
