Key Features
The Yamaha YOB241B30 Student Oboe, Low Bb is the ideal student oboe. The ABS body produces a reliable tone, so it's ideal for beginners wanting to play with perfect intonation. The warm oboe sound is really similar to that of more expensive, wooden models, so you'll be able to play with a beautiful tone straight away.
Yamaha has designed the YOB241B30 to make learning and playing easier. The semiautomatic, simplified conservatoire system is preferred amongst most UK players - and makes learning easier because the thumb plate gives you different fingering options. The wood-like matte finish on this Yamaha student oboe looks stunning, so it's ideal for school and stage performances.
Please note: This oboe does not come with a reed, please check our oboe reed page for our selection of reeds.

As the world leaders in music education, the team at Yamaha know their stuff when it comes to making learning fun and easy. That's why, for the YOB241B30, they have opted for a semi-automatic octave system with a thumbplate. By pressing the thumbplate down, it holds down two keys on the front of the oboe. The dual system is ideal for advancing players, as you've got the ease of using the thumbplate but also the right mechanics in place to use conservatoire fingering if you wish. Also, the YOB241B30 features a fingerplate for the right index finger for improved comfort - especially beneficial for players with smaller hands.
ABS resin is the ideal body material for students because it's durable and will cope with any scrapes or knocks much better than wood. Also, it's resistant to changes in temperature and humidity, which means it'll consistently give a reliable performance where wood sometimes warps with heat and this can affect the tone. As a student, reliable intonation is a priority as you get to know your instrument. Yamaha's woodwind knowledge and experience means they have used an ABS material that replicates the warm sound of wood, so beginners will be able to experience a beautiful tone.
