The Fulltone Fulldrive 3 Overdrive is a pedal that expands on the highly popular FD2 pedal, offers increased versatility and tonal shaping possibilities. It utilises a JFET input and op-amp to provide an organic and very tube-like response from a solid-state pedal. Its two channels act completely independently and can be cascaded into one and other in whichever order you choose, changeable via a mini-toggle switch. This pedal holds more than enough versatility and power to be used in whichever way you see fit, whether that is as a boost to a lower-gain overdrive or as a roaring independent distortion.
A buffered bypass delivers a clean signal and fattens up your tone through even the longest of cables, as well as providing isolation from other pedals. This pedal is also equipped with a dynamics control, providing subtle compression helping to limit those harsh transients and providing a more full-bodied tone. The Fulltone Fulldrive 3 is a purpose-built pedal which expands on the highly popular FD2 by offering an increased range of overdrives available through two completely independent channels, with the potential to be cascaded into one and other in whichever order you choose. The high-quality JFET input and op-amp delivers tube-like tone from a solid-state platform and provides the potential to achieve a wide plethora of overdriven sounds.
JFET versatility & tonal shaping
The Fulltone Fulldrive 3 features JFET op-amp and inputs for a real valve-like tone. What’s more, multiple channels contribute to a highly versatile sonic performance. The first channel features a simpler volume and tone arrangement to achieve low-gain and clean overdrives, similar to a vintage amp with wide open response and large dynamic range. The second channel (‘boost’) has its own overdrive and level control to offer higher levels of gain breakup.
This channel also features a three-way clipping switch to affect how the overdrive responds - 90s gives a symmetrical clipping with more mid-range like an old booster pedal. The Wide ASYM enhances the bass and treble with even-ordered harmonics creating a more Class-A tube amp sound; CC removes diode clipping which makes it more like a clean boost or aggressive op-amp sound at higher gain levels. This gives you maximum control over your overdrive flavour.
Switchable order & tone shaping
The Fulltone Fulldrive 3 includes an order switch which re-configures the order of the boost and the OD side to the circuit. This can either be used to push your overdrive sound into higher compression with the boost, or use the boost after the OD section to achieve the exact same tone at a louder volume, much like a clean boost pedal. The Dynamics knob allows you to control your guitar’s spikey transients, which can often make an amp feel hard to play through. It gives you subtle compression and limiting to give a full overall sound with even levels and more sympathetic sustain.
