There is undoubtedly a unique tone to the 4003S. The neck pickup elicits a huge warmth and giant low midrange that gives it this 'knock' characteristic - think mid-era Beatles. When you switch to the bridge, you're greeted with a very smooth treble and with a bit of drive, the Rickenbacker can really grind, especially when you dig into the strings - a sound synonymous with the work of Motorhead, amonst others.
A distinctive feel. The Rickenbacker 4003S is constructed with a maple body and a through maple neck with a lacquered rosewood fretboard. This blend of tonewoods gives it incredible sustain which you can really feel under your fingers - one of the features that really commands people to pay attention when you strike a note. No one will be able to get enough of your basslines.
Detailed, with distinctive design features that really add to feel of this incredible instrument. The first thing that might grab your eye is the bridge pickup cover - not only there to protect the pickup and look good, but some people even claim it helps with shielding.
Of course, a bass of this calibre doesn't skimp on hardware, including Schaller Deluxe tuners which are rugged and known for quality – once tuned, you won't be touching these throughout a gig. The same praise of quality is applied to the pickups too. The Rickenbacker single-coil pickups are incredibly versatile and have a voicing all of their own - one that's been put on a pedestal by bassists for decades.
