Sculpt your sound
With the Capsule Retro Essentials, you have access to powerful macro controls that allow you to shape the sound of each instrument. These knobs give you the ability to achieve a wide range of timbres by adjusting a combination of settings. Each macro control can affect one or more parameters of the sound engine, giving you precise control over the characteristics of the sound. Custom-made for each instrument, every time you load a new preset, a new set of macro controls will be loaded. These macro controls are named after the specific effect they have on the sound. The main macro, represented by the larger knob in the centre, has the most significant impact on the sound, while the other macros are designed for fine-tuning the sound design. And for seamless integration with your hardware MIDI controller, each macro control can be mapped to a knob or fader element using the MIDI learn option.
Play with Precision
The visual keyboard tab on the interface of the Capsule Retro Essentials provides a convenient way to input notes directly or monitor the notes you are playing. This feature gives you a visual representation of the keyboard, allowing for easy navigation and precise playing. On the left side of the interface, you'll find two "pitch bend" value slots that let you adjust the up and down range of the pitch wheel, enabling you to add expressive pitch bends of up to +/- 12 semitones to your performance.
Customize Your Playability
The play settings of the Capsule Retro Essentials offer a range of options to shape the playability of each instrument. The response curves, located on the left side of the panel, allow you to adjust the sensitivity of the instrument to your MIDI keyboard input. By dragging the handle of the curves, you can make the response softer or harder, depending on your preference. This feature is available for velocity, aftertouch, pitch wheel, and mod wheel, giving you precise control over the dynamics and expression of your performance. These settings are saved within your preset, ensuring that your desired playability is always ready to go. Additionally, a small play head on the interface shows you the value of the last played note, allowing for easy reference and monitoring while playing.
Shape Your Sound's Envelope
The AHDSR section of the Capsule Retro Essentials gives you control over the global amplitude envelope of each instrument. With knobs dedicated to each of the five stages, you can adjust the attack, hold, decay, sustain, and release of your sound. If you want to add an extra layer of dynamics to your playing, the "Velocity" slider allows you to make the amplitude sensitive to the velocity of your input. Slide it down for a constant amplitude, regardless of velocity, or slide it all the way up for a gradual increase in amplitude based on velocity input.
Choose Your Mode
In the voicing section, you have the flexibility to adjust the voicing mode of the Capsule Retro Essentials. The options available are as follows:
- Poly: This mode allows you to play multiple notes at the same time, giving you the ability to create rich, layered sounds.
- Mono: In this mode, only one note can be played at a time, perfect for monophonic melodies or basslines.
- Legato: When playing legato, the envelopes are not retriggered, allowing for smooth transitions between overlapping notes. This is great for creating fluid, connected melodies.
- Glide: The glide, or portamento, feature adds a smooth pitch glide when two notes are overlapping. By adjusting the time slider, you can control the length of the glide, adding a touch of modulation to your playing.
