The Motu 1248 Thunderbolt Audio Interface provides high quality sound to studios on a budget, and a much more. The 1248 produces a minuscule -110dB THD+N of self noise, the 1248 offers you some of the cleanest and crispest audio around. The 1248 includes 4 incredibly transparent and crystal clear microphone preamplifiers and 2 guitar inputs. An extra 18 channels of digital I/O via ADAT optical ports brings your complete channel count to 32 x 34. To go with this collection of high-quality I/O, Motu provided the 1248 Interface with ultra-fast Thunderbolt connectivity (as well as USB 2.0), so you get incredible low system latency.
Motu's 1248 Audio Interface features an onboard DSP mixer which offers a number of advantages that will be useful in a variety of scenarios. This digital mixer supports up to 48 inputs (via AVB expansion) and 12 stereo busses, which allows you to set up complex routing schemes completely independent of your computer. If connected to a wireless router the 1248 can have all of its internal mixing functions, including effects and processing, accessed via an app on your iOS device, allowing your 1248 to function perfectly as a standalone mixer. Also included is DSP EQ, compression, gate, and reverb which will serve many purposes in the studio or on stage.
The Ethernet connection within the 1248 can link more Motu AVB equipped audio interfaces to it. This can be done directly via a simple Ethernet cable or as part of an audio network via one or more Motu AVB Switches. If you use a single Ethernet cable, you can easily link a second 1248 or other AVB ready device directly to your first one. With Motu AVB Switches, you can create an audio network of up to five units, potentially linking hundreds of channels of I/O across multiple rooms. And since it's all over standard Cat-5e Ethernet cable, latency or cable runs aren't any kind of issue.
