Key Features
A versatile studio microphone. The Oktava MK-012-10 Condenser Microphone combines a transformerless circuitry with multiple large and small diaphragm capsules that are suited to a huge range of studio applications. The transformerless circuitry provides a range of benefits including the ability to perform in high SPL environments. This is helped further thanks to the included -10 dB pad. A microphone clip and protective case are also included.
The various included microphone capsules ensure the MK-012-10 is hugely versatile in recording setups. Included with the set is three small diaphragm capsules, with cardioid, hypercardioid and omni-directional polar patterns. A large diaphragm capsule, with a cardioid polar pattern, is also included. These allow the microphone to be used for a range of applications including close miking amplifiers, vocals and room microphone placements.

Oktava have implemented a popular transformerless circuit in the MK-012. Due to the success achieved in the studio with the MK-012, this circuitry has since been implemented in many other microphones. The transformerless design allows the MK-012 to deliver an uncoloured and clear sound. This also contributes to the MK-102’s extended high and low frequency response. One of the main benefits to implementing a transformerless circuit is the ability to handle much more level without distortion. This makes the MK-102 extremely versatile in its application, suited to both loud and quiet sources. This is further increased when the included -10 dB pad is applied in high SPL environments.
The MK-012-10 set provides a variety of capsules that can be used in different recording applications. Three small diaphragm capsules are included with omni, cardioid and hypercardioid polar patterns. Hypercardioid and cardioid capsules are suited to close miking applications used directly at the source. Combined with the MK-012 circuity, vocal and guitar cabinets benefit from this application.
A large diaphragm cardioid capsule is also included with the MK-012-10. This is ideal for capturing low SPL sound sources as the larger diaphragm is capable of capturing more acoustic energy. The larger diaphragm is also able to perform with lower self-noise, once again a benefit when recording low level sound sources.
The large diaphragm capsule utilises a large headbasket providing a number of benefits. The headbasket helps create an excellent off-axis response in both horizontal and vertical planes. Vertical asymmetry of the headbasket allows the recordist to explore different polar responses when using the mic upright or inverted. This is ideal for users looking to experiment with room and ambient recording techniques. The large capsule also offers a slight midrange boost, particularly beneficial for vocal applications.
