Enhancing the workflow and performance capabilities of Reason 12, the newly-launched 12.6 update offers Native support for Apple Silicon processors and Offline mode. Boasting 50% better performance M1/M2 computers, update 12.6 provides you with a much more stable and high-performance platform.
The new Offline mode has been designed for those with no internet connection in your studio, or for when you are off-grid. Logging into your session only once will automatically authenticate your software, letting you use Reason even without an internet connection. Built directly into the software, no other third-party software or support is required.
Additionally, all 750+ rack extensions have been revamped to ensure that they will run natively on Apple Silicon devices, even if not supported by the original developer.
With the release of Reason 12, the digital audio workstation has been revamped and optimised with high-resolution graphics, new rack devices and an improved workflow. One of the most prominent new additions to the software is the Mimic Creative Sampler rack device. This cutting-edge sampler takes the labour out of slicing sounds, allowing to focus on building new arrangements and patterns. Utilising automatic transient slice detection, the Mimic Sampler can detect and slice sounds for you, eliminating the need to cut your sample manually. Whether you’re re-arranging samples for a hip-hop record or chopping drum breaks for your next song, the Mimic makes the whole process a breeze!
Free for all users, the latest Reason update enables VST3 plug-in hosting. Why is this deserving of its own spotlight? Well, imagine being able to design your plug-ins or add features to existing plug-ins without writing any coding or designing your plug-in from the ground up. Now you can, and
Combining any VST3 plug-in with the power of Reason's CV possibilities and rack player MIDI FX, you can enhance and twist external plug-ins to your requirements. Loading in utility tools and you could add an LFO from Pulsar to add modulation to parameters which don't exist on the original. Not limited to this, you could even load up Matrix and create step sequence patterns with a single CV connection to multiple parameters for dynamic modulation of your sound design which evolves over time. The possibilities are endless!
The Combinator has been upgraded, now with an increased focus on sound design capabilities. The Combinator allows you to combine instruments effects and other devices to create powerful ensemble sounds, complete with a new in-depth Editor so you can create your own custom front panels including all knobs, buttons faders and graphics. You can now also create Combinators with existing Combinators, essentially creating a never-ending ensemble for more creative sound design options.
Improved for the modern era, Reason 12 now features full high-resolution graphics complete with scalable windows, optimising the GUI for added flexibility. Each Reason Rack device has been upgraded with crisp new graphics. The DAW will also scale automatically to fit within your monitor’s resolution for an optimised user experience.
Take control over your music with the rack. The rack is the beating heart of Reason 12. As you write your song, the rack grows with it. As you add more instruments and effects to the rack. Open and close instruments easily and it's all routed for you - so when you add more and more instruments and effects you can be sure that it won't mess up your project. If you want to change any of the routings over the instruments then the rack can be flipped so you can edit it manually. This versatility sets Reason 12 ahead of the competition.
The ideas in your head but you need the tools to get recorded. This is where Reason 12's massive selection of instruments comes in. Create searing leads with the Europa synthesizer, or delve deeper with the semi-modular Thor synthesizer. Create amazing beats with Kong - Reason's bespoke drum machine.
From warming up a synth using a saturator to blasting your beats with pure distortion - the effects on show with Reason will give your sounds the edge they need to stand out. These effects include (but are not limited to): The RV7000 MkII reverb which provides a range of different impulse response models, the Echo which brings the accuracy and perfection of digital delay in an easy to use package, and Pulveriser Demolition, which is filter/distortion/modulation tool that does to sounds exactly what its name suggests. If you're after tools that perfect your songs then the MClass Mastering Suite provides you with everything to bring out the utmost quality in your music.
If you're already ingrained in another DAW system but you want to utilise all of Reason's amazing instruments and tools. Then you'll be pleased to know that it can all be used as a plug-in with any other DAW. Just load it up and loop with Dr Octo Rex in Ableton Live or play realistic pianos with Radical Piano in Reaper. Reason works anywhere - making it your go-to tool for music production - wherever you make music.
