Tried and tested pernambuco. For this bow, J. Thibouville-Lamy has opted for the highest quality pernambuco, which has been seasoned for 20 years for the very best tone. Not only this, but each piece of wood is tested for resonance and elasticity using a Lucchi Meter. Only blanks that score a rating over 5300 will make the cut. Pieces of this quality are few and far between, making these bows extremely coveted.
Even after advancements in technology and the introduction of carbon bows, many professional string players feel that the warm, pure tone that a classic pernambuco bow gives you is impossible to match. It's the best type of wood for bows because of how dense it is, meaning it can be cut thinly and be carefully crafted into a well-balanced bow while still maintaining its strength, and therefore its durability.
Inspired by the famed and highly respected archetier of the 19th century French tradition Joseph Alfred Lamy himself, this bow is made from the quality materials you'd expect. Lamy received gold and silver medals for his work at the Paris Exposition in 1889; he sought to build strong bows by increasing the volume of the stick and frog. The materials used for this J. Thibouville Lamy Master Violin Bow do just that.
With 925 solid silver hardware, the J. Thibouville Lamy Master Violin Bow looks exquisite, and such a premium material will stay in excellent condition, which is especially important for the winding, as this will have more contact with your hand. Similarly, the soft leather grip is comfortable and durable. J. Thibouville-Lamy has chosen the highest quality fine Mongolian natural horse hair, prized for its thickness, to help you create the finest tone with your long-lasting bow.
The delicate finishing touches define the J. Thibouville-Lamy Master Violin Bow. Most noticeable is the sleek ebony frog. This frog has been cut from fine Burmese ebony and this material is the ideal surface for contact with your thumb because it's so strong and doesn't require any varnish thanks to its natural oils, so you'll have a stable grip and control over your bow at all times. The frog looks incredible too, especially as it has been mounted by hand with sterling silver fittings for a stunning, complementary overall design. The gorgeous Parisian, mother of pearl eye surrounded by a silver ring - as well as the mother of pearl button on the screw - gives a traditional, professional look to match this bow's premium quality materials.
