By combining a unique design with a range of practical features, Wood has made the Viper accessible for any standard of player. All Viper violins start as a piece of poplar wood and are cut depending on your configuration. The V-shaped body is reminiscent of vintage electric guitars and is carefully shaped to offer superior comfort.
The headstock on the Viper violin is also inspired by vintage guitars. Instead of using traditional violin pegs, Wood has decided to use a sealed gear mechanism. This type of mechanism holds tuning much better than standard rotary pegs, and also enables you to tune the strings differently if required. For a more traditional feel, this model has a regular shaped fingerboard. Constructed from specially selected ebony, the fingerboard is shaped to match modern orchestral standards.
The Viper violin feature a newly developed chest system that supports you in both standing and seated positions. The system works by moving the strain from your neck and chin to your entire chest, allowing more movement. Because of the chest's larger surface area and stronger upright position, you feel more comfortable and adopt a more natural position. This unique design is a forward-thinking solution for musicians who play frequently, and also enables you to take part in other activities such as singing and audience participation.
The chest support system has also been praised by musicians with back and neurologist difficulties as it transfers all the weight from your neck onto your chest.
The Tru-Tone pickup is known for defining the electric violin sound. Perfectly suited for live environments, the Tru-Tone pickups have a high output signal which is ideal for guitar amps. The frequency balance focuses on high-end clarity, while tightening the midrange for a stable, more natural sound. The Tru-Tone pickups are a passive system, making them ideal for live use as they don’t require batteries. The pickup is placed discreetly under the bridge for a clear signal transfer that registers the violin’s body resonance.
