The PDP Concept Select Aluminium Snare sports a pair of exquisite, walnut hoops. The visual benefit of this is clear, adding to the Concept Select's already vintage aesthetic. Tonally, wooden hoops audibly change the snare's response, controlling the overtones of this aluminium drum's already dry sound still further, for unrivalled focus and a strong, but natural attack. Another, perhaps less obvious benefit, comes when you switch to cross-stick playing. Here the walnut's natural, earthy tone really shines, creating a highly desirable, satisfying click.
From the Ludwig Acrolite to the Pearl SensiTone, some of the most coveted snare drums in history have been forged from aluminium. Their naturally dry tone, with a short sustain and fewer overtones makes them the ideal choice for many studio engineers. Despite its 5" depth, the PDP Concept Select Aluminium Snare's 3mm shell is substantial enough to handle a wide range of tunings, and imparts a pleasing, poppy punch to any track.
The Concept Select Series comes with the coveted DW MAG throw-off in a chrome finish. A simple design, the MAG is a workhorse drop throw-off with easy to adjust horizontal tension. Its name comes from a magnet that's built into the body of the throw-off. When the handle is lifted into the upright position it is magnetically held in place, to prevent accidental disengagement. When released, it 'throws' the strainer completely off the head to avoid any strainer buzz.
The Concept Select's triple-flanged hoops allow the Remo drumhead to vibrate as freely as possible, while also providing a great stick surface for rimshots and cross-sticks.
The inclusion of DW's sought-after True Pitch tuning rods in the Concept Select design, adds incredible tuning accuracy. The rods feature a much tighter thread pattern (5mm compared with a standard 12/24), which adds up to an incredible 20-percent increase in threads per rod. That means 20-percent more exact tuning on each and every lug, so you can dial in the precise tone you can hear in your head with ease.
