Key Features
The Genelec 8050B Professional Studio Monitor is built for critical listening in professional studios, broadcast environments, and production spaces. The 8050B features an 8-inch bass driver and a 1-inch metal dome tweeter, each powered by dedicated amplifiers for clean, high-precision sound reproduction.
Product Ref: 326471
The Genelec 8050B is engineered to provide highly detailed and reliable monitoring. Its frequency response spans from 38 Hz to 20 kHz, covering deep lows, clear mids, and crisp highs. A bi-amplified system delivers 150W to the bass driver and 120W to the tweeter, ensuring dynamic and distortion-free playback at all volumes. This makes it ideal for tasks that require precision, such as mixing, mastering, and post-production.
The active crossover system ensures a smooth frequency transition between the drivers, reducing phase issues and providing balanced sound reproduction. This consistency makes it easier to detect subtle changes in a mix, which is essential for professional audio engineers and producers working on detailed projects.
The Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™) ensures that the 8050B delivers even sound dispersion, maintaining accuracy across different listening positions. This technology reduces unwanted reflections, improving stereo imaging and making it easier to place instruments and vocals in a mix. Combined with the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™ (MDE™), which reduces cabinet-induced distortion, the 8050B provides a stable and transparent soundstage.
The monitor’s off-axis response remains consistent, allowing for accurate monitoring even when moving around the room. This is particularly beneficial for studios where multiple people need to evaluate a mix from different positions.
Acoustic conditions can vary significantly, but the 8050B includes a range of adjustable tone controls to optimise performance. Bass tilt and bass roll-off controls allow fine-tuning of low-frequency response, helping to address issues caused by room boundaries or reflective surfaces. The treble tilt control refines high-frequency output, ensuring that the monitor maintains a balanced sound regardless of its placement.
A dedicated desktop low-frequency control compensates for bass buildup when the monitor is placed on a reflective surface like a desk or mixing console. These features make the 8050B adaptable to different room types, from well-treated studios to more challenging acoustic spaces.
The 8050B’s aluminium enclosure is designed for durability while keeping the overall unit lightweight. The rear-mounted reflex port improves bass efficiency and minimises turbulence, ensuring smooth low-frequency performance even at high volumes. The Iso-Pod stand isolates the monitor from vibrations and allows precise angle adjustments for the best listening position.
For added efficiency, the Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS™) function reduces power consumption by automatically switching the monitor to standby mode when no audio signal is detected. This feature ensures that power is only used when necessary, making the 8050B an energy-conscious choice for professional studios.
